Shikimori is not just a cutie is the new spring anime of 2022 and with the 1st episode released everyone wants to know what’s in the story, is it worth watching?

First impression of the anime

“Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san” or “Shikimori is not just a cutie” and with that only, you could have guessed whether this anime interests you or not. Well for me the title is perfectly put on to focus the light on a female protagonist in the series and the other part that is “ is not just cutie” is enough to interest me or drive me towards itself with a curiosity of finding out the hidden or unique features that the author is trying to display for the character. To be honest who needs a read of the title when there’s a pink-haired – blue eyes cute high school girl in the poster XD.

Genre and rating of Shikimori is not just a cutie anime

Well talking about the anime this is another Manga adaptation written & illustrated by Keigo Maki & published by Kadansha Comics. The series is a high school romantic comedy & slice of life anime with a target audience of 13+.

The 1st episode of the anime was just released a few days back on 10th April 2022 and got a 7.73 rating on the myanimelist website for it. 

The synopsis of the series tells like this “ Shikimori seems like the perfect girlfriend: cute, fun to be around, sweet when she wants to be… but she has a cool dark side that comes out under the right circumstances. And her boyfriend Izumi loves to be around when that happens!”

Shikimori is not just a cutie story arc

Well from the synopsis and after watching the first episode, one thing is very clear again the male protagonist is going to be a loser and unlucky guy with all the trouble surrounding him, and his girlfriend that is Shikimori is going to protect him from all the mishappenings.

Starting a story directly with being in a relationship and with a female dominant character is very less heard of but definitely could attract the readers who love to enjoy romantic arcs & especially the readers who are in an ongoing relationship will definitely like to compare and learn from these anime couples. 

The story is simple and straightforward for now but as episodes will continue I hope there will be more to the backstories of the female & male protagonists as how they actually came into the relationship & how Shikimori has developed such a Ninja type of instincts and reflexes.

With what we have till now I can expect a good character-building & some wholesome romantic moments between this new town couple in the coming episodes.

Shikimori is an interesting character

From going to school together to walking back home, Shikimori wants to be around his boyfriend all the time and we get it, she is not a possessive girlfriend but more says a bodyguard to his boyfriend. His boyfriend always finds himself in the middle of mishappenings and sucks at almost everything. Shikimori has a scary badass look also in her face when she overheard some conversations with her classmates when they were picking on her boyfriend.

Shikimori is no less than an Olympic athlete, she scores perfect sets in bowling game when she goes out to hang out after school. And not to forget Shikimori is super cute when she is around his boyfriend and blushes all the time his boyfriend compliments her. Finally, the most important part of her character is that she could be a badass ninja also whenever something bad is going to happen with her boyfriend and always ready to deny the misfortunes.

Conclusion

Overall the anime looks promising with its cute romantic arc & all the different flavors in the female protagonist character making it more interesting to know further & also their backstories.

The anime is a good weekend stress buster and couples will definitely enjoy this one very much.
