Well, humans are always curious and fascinated by the world around them and to be blunt they view everything revolving around themselves and their life. We are the most intelligent species on earth but still we haven’t figured out how to communicate verbally with other species of the earth. Yet, one thing do make us capable of understanding to some degree, through love and compassion towards them and when they also reciprocate with same.
Imagine you had a pet dog at your 10th birthday and you already have decided that you will grow together and play all types of sports together and live together forever. But by the age 20, your best friend has to say goodbye to this world and to you. Because that’s how much they live on earth. It’s sad but truth that you will learn as the time comes by.

The Story Plot
The story starts with the establishment of an historic moment for the world as the Demon King has been defeated by a group of Heroes and the era peace is finally starting. The Hero group (two Humans, one dwarf warrior & one Elf Mage) finally came back to the Kingdom after 10 years and a grand celebration was organized for their victory. The Hero group spent their last evening together as a unit because the very next morning everyone will start living their life as an individual. During their 10 years journey they are formidable unit but due to different races and upbringings they might behave or act differently sometimes.
All the members of the group cherish their time together and are more than grateful for everything but there’s one member who thinks a little differently and for her, the past 10 years were good but not enough to ponder upon so hardly. She is unsatisfied that it’s only 1/100th of her life span. Thus she head starts on her own journey to find all types of magic all around the world. When she finally returns to the kingdom, she finds that all her group members are now old and close to death. She slowly started to realize that humans have much more shorter life span than her and now she regrets not knowing them more in all those years as they knew her after loosing one of the member of the group. Thus starts her new journey to understand the humans and their perspective of life on this earth.

Characters of the Story
1. Frieren
Frieren is our main protagonist of the story. She’s an elf and a mage by profession. She travelled with the Hero party for 10 years before finally defeating the Demon King and setting up to her own journey to find new magics in the world after the peace was restored. She had a very typical and single lens of viewing the world until she finally realized that she didn’t took the opportunity to understand the meaning of life beyond her magic. She felt regret after loosing one of the party member and how little she knew about him even after spending 10 years together and defeating the Demon King. Frieren set on a new journey and made some new friends along her journey as she learn more about humans and their perspective of life.
2. Himmel
Himmel was hero of the hero party, who were able to defeat the Demon King along with the Priest Heiter, Mage Frieren and Warrior Eisen. Himmel was the most empathetic and kind person of all members, as he never hesitated to help anyone in need. He was also bit quirky sometimes and jokes around related to how much handsome he was during their adventures. Himmel is the epicenter of the plotline of this anime, as the main character Frieren decides to set on a journey to understand humans more after Himmel’s demise.
3. Heiter
Heiter was the Priest of the Hero party. He loved to drink alcohol all the times and he often tries to act tough to hide his fear or related emotions. He also tried to seek true meaning of life after Himmel’s death and follow his path compassion and kindness. He saved a war orphan (Fern) and provided her a reason to continue living life. When Frieren turned down his request to take Fern as her apprentice, he tricked Frieren to make her teach magic to Fern while she studies a rebirth magic that Heiter asked her to study upon mean while.
4. Eisen
Eisen is a warrior dwarf of the Hero party. He was more empathic and understanding than Frieren. He choose to leave a simple life after the disbanding of the hero party. He loved the concept of people going to heaven afterlife and kept a strong believe what Heiter told him during his journey. Eisen was a dwarf, so he had a longer life than human but not as compared to that of elfs. His age was unnoticeable behind his long long beard.
5. Fern
Fern was a war orphan who was saved by Heiter. She was a human mage and capable of holding extreme amount of manna inside her. When Frieren first met her she was surprised by witnessing Fern’s manna control. Fern then got tutored by Frieren for next several months till Heiter said her goodbye and she finally become an apprentice of Frieren. Fern grew quickly with her magic and also taking care of Frieren more than often as she struggled to wake up at mornings.
We will be witnessing more character in the series but as of the 2hr long 1st episode release, we have these few main/supporting characters of the storyline till now.
Animation and Music
This anime has some of the best mesmerizing animated scenes of the beautiful world that has been created in story. Studio Madhouse and the director Keiichiro Saito nailed the 1st four episodes and we are more than satisfied with what we got on the plate.
The theme OP song is created by the famous YOASOBI and the ED song is created by Milet. Apart from the OP and ED songs the background music just fits perfectly for an adventure anime like this. The sound directing was done by Shoji Hata.
My Experience in watching this anime
I guess in the last 3 years of watching countless anime’s and especially the adventure genre, this is the far most the calmest anime I watched.
Why calmest?
It started right of with a very joyful moment of establishing peace in the world, where in most of the other similar genre anime we got to see instant chaos in character’s life and plot. The time frame of the anime sure jumps a lot but it certainly fits perfectly in terms of our main character and we never feel like we missed something in between. Not much of a complex concept to grasp and the simple meanings behind each emotions and actions.
If I want to just relax and enjoy the blissfulness of an anime with great visuals and soothing music at any time of the day I would watch this anime for sure.
I hope you give it a shot and enjoy Frieren’s journey along.
