Buddy Daddies: Annoyingly Wholesome Entertainment

Ever thought of becoming a daddy not with your better half instead with your best friend and partner in crime, well this anime will give you a glimpse of that.

“Annoyingly Wholesome”, well you read it correctly, well let’s see the wholesome part first. According to Cambridge Dictionary, “Wholesome” means good for you, and likely to benefit you physically, morally, or emotionally. 
And around Spring season (April-June) last year one of the best wholesome anime was aired and it also got nominated for one of the Crunchyroll’s best debut series of 2022, that is “SpyxFamily“. This anime was a complete family entertainment show which consists of action, mystery, perfect drama and many secrets with loads of laughter and tense situations all along the season. Though the demographic was for Shonen but certainly this doesn’t stop the anime getting much appreciation by all groups of anime watchers, in short a perfect sitcom.
Now that you got some idea of wholesomeness let’s see how the “Annoying” term is justified in this series and that’s totally because of the plot & story of the anime, so let’s understand it more intensely 😁

Plot of Buddy Daddies

If you are a Jackie Chan fan then probably you’ll get the idea instantly about this original series plotline, “Rob B Hood” one of the most entertaining film from Hong Kong and watched in dubs in the whole world and loved by millions. The movie had definitely a very common plotline of two robber friends trying to get money in shortcut way but with great comedy timings and Jackie’s action scenes made the movie a complete package already but the secret sauce that made this movie a blockbuster is involvement of a 1-2 year old infant in the lives of these Robin hoods. Life of two young men’s with an infant and big dreams never settle well, we all can accept and also pity the situation ourselves.
So the Plotline of this new Anime Series of winter 2023 is somewhat very similar to the plotline of “Rob B Hood” , two hitman’s (professional Assassins) namely Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa were happily completing the missions and living a well luxurious life with the money they make on each Assassin Jobs until one very mission which they completed successfully but got stuck with a little 4 year old girl who was the child of their target with another mistress and from that day starts journey of two young hitman’s living with a 4 years old. 
As of 7th February 2023, 5 episodes have been aired and we will say till now there are only 3 main characters of the show. 

Main Characters of Buddy Daddies

Kazuki Kurusu

One of the daddies who is a computer geek and the brains of every mission. Kazuki is more of a hygienic person than his other partner and also loves to cook, though the appreciation never comes from his introverted partner in crime.
Kazuki was an orphan and he had never had parents in his life but how he get all these qualities of living in a well mannered way is still unknown. Kazuki do have some past where he was going to start his own family but till now all we know is that he only has Rei his partner , Kyuutarou who assign mission to Kazuki and Miri, a four year old girl who had accepted Kazuki as her father and call him Papa.

Rei Suwa

Rei Suwa a hardcore gamer and amazingly sharp shooter and action packed movements when he is on a mission while completely opposite when he’s not. Rei Suwa basically comes from a wealthy family as his father was one of the hitmen of his own time and he had prepared Rei to be one from a very early age. Rei’s character can be defined as a typical gamer of today’s generation and he hardly thinks about hygiene and wants to play playstation all the time whenever he is not on a mission. As story within these 5 episodes so reveal that his father did died or been killed because he betrayed the agency he was working for. Rei is very much expressionless and feels like he doesn’t have much emotions to show as with a rough childhood and then the killing of his father had really impacted his attitude towards life but with the involvement of Miri , Rei does understand what it is to love someone or to be loved by someone little by little.

Miri Unasaka

Probably the secret sauce of this anime we mentioned earlier. Miri Unasaka , 4 years old who is full of energy , full of life and always smiling and laughing , causing troubles to her new fathers and surely with loads of cuteness.
Miri is the child of Misaki Unasaka, a singer/performer of a bar who was also the mistress of one of the Kazuki and Rei targets and an influential person of the town. Miri had never seen her father and thus she sets off to find her father on Christmas night in her mothers direction. Unfortunately things turned out a little different and Kazuki had to bluff her that he is her father and thus Miri got Kazuki and Rei as her new fathers.

As an original series that too in comedy genre this anime has 7.76/10 rating in Myanimelist.
Fare enough rating from Myanimelist while my individual will rate this 8/10, I wanted to add one more just for the wholesome cuteness of Miri and for the patience of Kazuki and Rei with such an energetic child.

Where to watch Buddy Daddies

Well it’s sad that no international licensor is been known as of yet for this awesome series , so I guess people outside Japan has to rely on the third party sites like Zorotv or 9anime.

Broadcasting Time of Buddy Daddies

There will be a total of 13 episodes as of now and the show is been broadcasted every Saturday at 00:00 (JST) or at 20:30 (IST).

Final Conclusion

This is an original show produced by Aniplex and animated by the studio P.A. Works with the theme of Childcare and Organized Crime & the targeted demographic audience of this anime is PG-13.
The series is really quite good in terms of it’s comedy timings and the characters are well drawn by the studio which depicts different personification to balance the plot very well. Though this anime series is purely for entertainment purpose but the circus of life with lots of twists and turns and loosing loved ones and learning to love someone will be always there on the cards.
